SK Modified removes the fence on the new London-Waterford Speedbowl-RaceDayCT.com

A car accident at the SK Modified department of Speedbowl in New London-Waterford tonight resulted in the destruction of a large oval fence on the coastline.

Witnesses reported that after the accident, there were four ambulances at the scene to treat the injured immediately.

The amateur video of the accident taken from the pit station (see the video below) shows that Tim Jordan’s modified SK rides on two wheels on the wall and then shreds part of the fender in turn.

A post on Speedbowl’s Facebook page read: “We are happy to report that everyone involved in tonight’s event is fine. We will post relevant details about any scheduling plans as soon as it becomes available. Good night from Speedbowl”

Several sources close to the scene said that two people were taken to the hospital by ambulance and their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

No one immediately reached out to Speedbowl management for comment.

The accident occurred during the 100 laps SK Modified function completed 42 laps, which was part of the final day of the three-day final weekend on the track.

Jordan was fighting for fifth place, and when Glenn Lean was out in the second corner, the contact between them made Jordan climb up the wall from his hind legs. The video showed that Jordan's car was riding on two wheels against the wall in front of the pit entrance before the third corner.

The car uses two wheels to open the gate, and then immediately enters the fence after opening. When the car is driving correctly, it can be seen that the four wheel blocks of the fence and the pillars of the fixed fence are torn by the speeding car.

The video shows a large group of people standing behind the fence. The video was interrupted and people ran and screamed.

After the incident, Jordan got out of the car and walked around on the track.

At the time of the accident, Keith Rocco was leading, Andrew Moller was second, and Dennis Garda was third.

After the 2015 season, the track owner Bruce Bemer installed a new fence on the track.

Well, that explains. I want to know why they only show 42 out of 100 laps on the race monitor. Thank you Sean.

Pray for everyone involved! That's why you always hear the announcer say coming back from the fence during the game. Maybe this is the pit but there are too many people close to the fence. If this is the old fence, I believe things will be worse.

Put the facts together, let the ethnic community know, and do a good job. thanks

Thank God, all drivers and spectators at the Cohanzie Fire/EMS handling site will be safe and sound. It is great to see that the car and driver safety systems are working as designed, and the new fence has played a role.

Thank you Sean for letting us know the facts.

Horrible moment, pray that everyone is okay

If this is the old fence, this may be an unimaginable tragedy that changes sports. Thank god it's not worse

So I am behind the fence, not near the fence in the pit lane. I was knocked down, but I was fine. The fence has done its job!

This is about people with continuous cables, not fences. The fence may be shrapnel. See those tacky cast fittings at the top that connect the vertical length to the vertical length of 45 degrees? bad idea. When it is separated, there is almost no stopping force and shrapnel, which you can see very vividly on the WFSB website.

Now there are cable services or anything equivalent everywhere, and no one really understands any details, mainly because the media are unwelcome people in the facility.

Bill Flood, Fox61 News "No response to Watford Speedbowl's call"

Under normal circumstances, Connecticut’s most important game reporting media appeared on the track. Covers the game, but also gets detailed information when something goes wrong, for example here. That well was poisoned, so the best that anyone can do now is what is done here. A vague video, no first-hand information, because there is no reporter present, Speedbowl management said that it will announce future plans, about what, to complete the game? good luck. It is more likely to investigate this incident. The insurance company paying the claim will definitely want more detailed information and the town or state. I think everyone will get well meaning that they will not die or be permanently injured. If you are the person who was repaired in the emergency room of a hospital, you might think this is not good. If you have encountered such an incident, the silver lining is trying to learn from it and improve safety measures. The Speedbowl tradition in the corner needs to be re-examined, and perhaps the same is true for the fence design. It’s time to make Speedbowl’s loyal fans shine, and now provide first-hand information on this forum or social media.

Watching the video posted by Shawn seems to be worse. Although the video is short and blurry, it doesn't look like a car has gone through a fence. Pray for all those affected by the incident. No one wants to participate in an entertainment event and leave in an ambulance if injured.

Doug the link you posted does not work for me. I think they may have taken it down. What does it show?

If there is no wiring, it is not an anti-collision fence.

It's no big deal. This is the same image included in this story, but with a higher resolution.

The fence did this for the Watford Speedbowl team. Everything they learned from the accident will only increase the safety of the track. Yes, they will reschedule the game to complete it.

I'm sure Bruce is working at the fence today/they have a game this weekend. Hope everything can be done on time

I have to say that in terms of safety, Speedbowl is a first-class facility. Only from the front, you can notice all the new fencing facilities. Great place, there must be a great game yesterday.

NLWS Facebook "Michael Gada, uh, four people including my father are in the hospital"

"I have to say that in terms of safety, Speedbowl is a first-class facility."

Can't say the accuracy of Speedbowl's safety, but the timing to tout it may be a bit off.

When you ask people to stand five feet away from the fence during the game, how do you say this is a top-notch safety facility? I'm glad they upgraded the fence recently, but how to implement some safety measures? A photo taken last night showed a stroller near the place where the fence collapsed. If you let people stand next to a fence with a child in a stroller, then you are not a first-class safety facility.

If I remember correctly, this is the second test of the new fence configuration. Adam Gada was the first between the fourth round (sitting there and witnessing it all) and the starting station. The fence did its job just like last night.

All of you with short memory must have forgotten what happened in Daytona on the front straight and the injuries? Where do all the audience come from? Shrapnel from cars and fences. So if it cannot be stopped at Daytona, how can you expect it to be stopped at Watford?

I know, this is Watford, so it's just something else to complain about. So let's talk as much as possible about things that might be worse. The track and car safety systems are working, so why don't we thank the big guys above.

By the way, due to the HIPPA law, no one can publish relevant medical information about the injured, not even the race track. All they can do is speak in general terms based on the information provided.

Just watched Sid's View, from his vantage point in the stands and the wonderful shots taken by the on-board camera in the Jordan car. Very terrible wreckage, Jordan's car is rubbish.

Anyone who brings a child or baby into the pit is an idiot. Minor.. Oh, I forgot that the minor is driving a modification! Thompson light poles, sand dunes, and stands collapsed, and the entrance to the track was second in turn. How many people were killed or injured in the facility? Oh, when the car lands on the stands or Tony J is killed, everyone who claims to be in Stafford! Talk to the inspectors in the town of Watford and the engineers who approve the capital improvements and they most often say they will never finish! Still scolding? ? It's horrible that people are injured.. Measure the distance from the fans standing one after the other to the fence! Remember the pile of beer glasses that once occupied that space? People have been standing there for more than 50 years...don't expect this to change. Look at any super track in NASCAR... Watford did his best, despite what QBS said on Monday morning. That's the racing PS. Don't blame the observers.. Reen has anger management issues and is not part of the racing car. After the racing car is in contact, Jordan ran directly to the fence. PS Timmy rode the fence two weeks ago, but there was no car under him for a long time during that dusty period. John Porter should be handcuffed in handcuffs... The last question depends on which side of the fence you are on... Does this call work?

To me, this sounds like a classic confusion on this issue. Throw as many things as possible in the current event to show that this is a non-event in comparison and move on. I can talk about Stafford's reference. Before Cookman entered the stands, people were sitting on the grass embankment behind the fence, and we soon discovered that the fence was seriously insufficient. It was August 1983, and although I don’t remember what I did for the rest of the season, I know it was during the entire front and some time after the redesign. A better fence is certainly, but the most notable are those huge cables with lots of anchor points at the ends. Plus the other two rows of cable fences before and after the high fence. Comparing what happened in Watford with the Stafford configuration before 1983 is a fantasy. Wiring is the key, and Watford clearly did it in 2015. Perhaps it was learned from Stafford and other tracks that it was the industry safety standard at the time. If I am explaining that Speedbowl fans are correct, if no one is killed or maimed, there is no harm, no fouls and move on. Take a closer look at the harm in what happened last night for people who know the subject. If you can make cost-effective improvements or change the policy regarding where viewers can stand, you can at least consider them. My deal is to cast fence links. One day, angle grinders with cutting wheels, mig welders, skilled operators and respirators, because it is galvanized, all the separation you see will not happen. A fence that is essentially a net will be stronger...just to say.

Like Patty said, whoever was injured in the accident. The fence did its job. Thankfully, the fence was replaced shortly after Bemer bought the place to prevent Jordan's car from falling into the pit, which could cause death. As lonngtimefan said, if the old fence is still there, it may be tragic. I do think that as far as the audience in the pit lane and turn 1 is concerned, this can still change the rules of the bowl game. The bottom line is that the fence blocked Timmy's car and prevented it from passing. What do you call that Dafila?

This can’t be the only thing that happened in the Speed Bowl on Sunday, there must be some other games with winners and losers, just want to know

Money is spent on new fences and supports.

The old fence is square barbed wire with 4 lower cables. That car can easily get into the pit.

Bruce is doing his best to fix it. Work is in progress, waiting for fencers and towns.

I bet that Jake from State Farm, or anyone with their insurance, would be very interested in why all these people are where they are.

I keep seeing people saying that they will return to the game in less than a week. Bet their insurance company and the town might have something to say about it. The accident report will be submitted to the insurance company and questions will be raised. Anyone who underwrites the policy is viewing videos and pictures today and may be considering abandoning the policy.

If you take a closer look at Thompson's guardrail in the front section, you will be shocked. There must be more space, but not much protection. When cars start in one direction, they do crazy things. This is especially true when the tire is exposed. Super, gnomes, and even modders can do some crazy things there.

"Without wiring, there is no fence," said Dafella, our resident engineer. What is he talking about? Some other random tracks without actual fences? Today, we had some great interviews on the news channel of CT TV. It is great to see Bob Gada performing well in the game on NBC 30 after one of the two injured was injured. Even when it comes to wiring Dafella is obviously talking about it.

This is actually the worst case... the fastest part of the track, and then the car turns completely in the fence instead of concrete. A few decades ago, a car flew out of the back row. I believe there were no fences, only billboards, so there was no comparability. My point is that they have played like this for more than 65 years and nothing similar has happened, they can play again for more than 65 years, and they may never see it again. A perfect storm or an act of God... Hope they did add some extra fences, but please keep people standing by the track in the pit lane. Seekonk lets people sit 2 feet away from the outer wall. The massive dirt track does not even have a wall separating the bend from the pit, only a large patch of grass or dirt.

Through my Polish engineering training, I came up with an idea... I can say that Polish engineering is still offensive. Oh, it's too late now. One word... Gusset. Isn’t it exciting in the world of motorsport? We like gussets, don't we? Simple, economical and proven safety measures. The 1/8 x 3 inch strip is pre-cut at an appropriate angle in the workshop, preferably by a blacksmith. For each board, four welds reinforce the tacky cast joints at the top of the fence. Now is the best part. Let fans sponsor their own buckle. Write their names on it for future generations. Please, isn't that gold? Just want to help.

I think the problem with Jordan and Gada's cars running so far in a car accident is the concrete wall itself. Both cars jumped over the wall, only sliding on top of it. Old Armco guardrails are slightly deformed, and their shape seems to prevent this sliding. Of course, they will be damaged and need to be replaced in time, which has not happened in the past few years before Bemer bought the track. I do remember that a few years ago, Porter and Serravolo’s car jumped over the wall and got caught in a fence. The old fence played a role in slowing the car.

The bone is on something. Whenever you have a 90-degree wall and a sloping track, you build a ramp, not a wall. This is not the first or last time this has happened.

If the worst happens, it will be cruel. The car does not ride the fence but just enters the fence. Driving against a wall/Armco will slow the car. The friction along solid surfaces is more forgiving than air. If you want to take off, accepting another car without touching anything will cause this car to fly around and hit the fence in one fell swoop, which will be difficult. This means grabbing the whole car or passing it through the fence. A 2,600-pound car is a problem for any fence. This is not the case with Stafford and Watford. It was over that day riding on the wall and hitting the fence. Look at some other fences around. I think everyone knows what this is. If someone looks at these fences, we may participate in fewer games.

Speedbowl14, Bob Potter left Waterford Circuit I believe it was the early or mid-1980s. Lock the wheels and rise in the air. Take down the fence. He did not break the half after stretching, and in turn broke the 50-foot fence 3. The concrete wall should slow the car more, and the concrete is more abrasive. I implore people to look around when participating in the competition. As far as security is concerned, there are some problems. When the speed increases, so will worry.

When I was in Lebanon Valley, an illegal sprint car from the world was collected in the fence of Turn 1. Nothing happened. The driver was safe and was not injured. The speed of that car is about 130 miles per hour. The fence does not need to be repaired. Dirt roads have more problems, but it is still related to asphalt racing.

Does anyone remember Corkey Cookman's stand at Turn 4 in Stafford? That was a truly terrible event. The fence and cables were broken that night.
