‘Don’t plant trees that drop pine needles all over your tile roof and clog the gutters. I’m back at this place all the time. The old lady in her 80s remembers her deceased husband planting this tree over 50 years ago. Foolish choice.’

‘Bloody new build along my side fence’

‘The wife’s father is in Norwest hospital potentially with bladder cancer so after my visit took the sister in law’s dog for a walk around a Nearby building oddly made out of wood.’

OF chases and courses dogs dream, so do horses—

Last night I was dozing and dreaming,

The crowd and the bustle were there, and the rustle

Of the silk in the autumn sky gleaming.

The stand throng’d with faces, the broadcloth and laces,

The booths, and the tents, and the cars,

The bookmakers’ jargon, for odds making bargain,

The nasty stale smell of cigars.

We formed into line, ‘neath the merry sunshine,

Near the logs at the end of the railing ;

‘Are you ready, boys ? Go !’ cried the starter, and low

Sank the flag, and away we went sailing.

In the van of the battle we heard the stones rattle,

Some slogging was done, but no slaughter,

A shout from the stand, and the whole of our band

Skimm’d merrily over the water.

Two fences we clear’d, and the roadway we near’d,

When three of our troop came to trouble ;

Like a bird on the wing, or a stone from a sling,

Flew Cadger, first over the double.

And Western was there, head and tail in the air,

And Pondon was there, too—what noodle

Could so name a horse ? I should feel some remorse

If I gave such a name to a poodle.

In and out of the lane, to the racecourse again,

Craig’s pony was first, I was third,

And Ingleside lit in my tracks, with the bit

In his teeth, and came up ‘like a bird.’

In the van of the battle we heard the rails rattle,

Says he, ‘Though I don’t care for shunning

My share of the raps, I shall look out for gaps,

When the light weight’s away with the running.’

At the fence just ahead the outsider still led,

The chestnut play’d follow my leader ;

Oh ! the devil a gap, he went into it slap,

And he and his jock took a header.

Says Ingleside, ‘Mate, should the pony go straight,

You’ve no time to stop or turn restive ;’

Says I, ‘Who means to stop ? I shall go till I drop ;’

Says he, ‘Go it, old cuss, gay and festive.’

The fence stiff and tall, just beyond the log wall,

We cross’d, and the walls, and the water,—

I took off too near, a small made fence to clear,

And just touch’d the grass with my snorter.

At the next post and rail up went Western’s bang tail,

And down (by the very same token)

To earth went his nose, for the panel he chose

Stood firm and refused to be broken.

I dreamt someone said that the bay would have made

The race safe if he’d stood a while longer ;

If he had,—but, like if, there the panel stands stiff—

He stood, but the panel stood stronger.

In and out of the road, with a clear lead still show’d

The violet fluted with amber ;

Says Johnson, ‘Old man, catch him now if you can,

‘Tis the second time round, you’ll remember.’

At the road once again, pulling hard on the rein,

Craig’s pony popp’d in and popp’d out ;

I followed like smoke, and the pace was no joke,

For his friends were beginning to shout.

And Ingleside came to my side, strong and game,

And once he appear’d to outstrip me,

But I felt the steel gore, and I shot to the fore,

Only Cadger seem’d likely to whip me.

In the van of the battle I heard the logs rattle,

His stroke never seem’d to diminish,

And thrice I drew near him, and thrice he drew clear,

For the weight served him well at the finish.

Ha ! Cadger goes down, see, he stands on his crown—

Those rails take a power of clouting—

A long sliding blunder—he’s up—well, I wonder

If now it’s all over but shouting.

All loosely he’s striding, the amateur’s riding

All loosely, some reverie locked in

Of a ‘vision in smoke,’ or a ‘wayfaring bloke,’

Now comes from afar the faint cry, ‘Here they are,’

‘The violet winning with ease,’

‘Fred goes up like a shot,’ ‘Does he catch him or not ?’

Level money, I’ll take the cerise.

To his haunches I spring, and my muzzle I bring

To his flank, to his girth, to his shoulder ;

Through the shouting and yelling I hear my name swelling,

The hearts of my backers grow bolder.

Neck and neck ! head and head ! staring eye ! nostrils spread !

Girth and stifle laid close to the ground !

Stride for stride ! stroke for stroke ! through one hurdle we’ve broke!

On the splinters we’ve lit with one bound.

And ‘Banker for choice’ is the cry, and one voice

Screams, ‘Six to four once upon Banker ;’

‘Banker wins,’ ‘Banker’s beat,’ ‘Cadger wins,’ ‘A dead heat’—

‘Ah ! there goes Fred’s whalebone a flanker.’

Springs the whip with a crack ! nine stone ten on his back,

Fit and light he can race like the devil ;

I draw past him—’tis vain ; he draws past me again,

Springs the whip ! and again we are level.

Steel and cord do their worst, now my head struggles first !

That tug my last spurt has expended—

Nose to nose ! lip to lip ! from the sound of the whip

He strains to the utmost extended.

How they swim through the air, as we roll to the chair,

Stand, faces, and railings flit past ;

from my lair, with a snort and a stare,

Rous’d by Fred with my supper at last.

What’s the collective noun for a herd of giraffes?

Good poetry Gunna, must admit I know little about Adam Lindsay Gordon.

Couple of good Bower Bird pics too, and a great fog shot.

He’s the only Australian with a memorial at Westminster Abbey.

I never imagined Boom using one of those cheap Digital Micrometers I always imagined Boom with strictly old school analog instruments, there goes my faith in humanity… That said I’m amazed at just how accurate those $10 Micrometers actually are and they maintain their accuracy even when they’ve been dropped repeatedly and generally abused. When you open them up you’re left asking yourself how can something that simple be so accurate.

Damm dodgy you sprang me, guilty as charged, but Mitutoyo is one of the most expensive digitals. That said I have a big tool box full of

. That said I have a big tool box full of Moore & Wright micrometers imperial and metric small to large sizes that never gets opened due to time factor. The mic’s are more accurate than digital but time restraints. (double post, more expensive rather than most)

Ok my faith is partially restored I have a few of the cheap digital Micrometers just because they’re so damn handy Most times I don’t really care about accuracy better than 0.1mm and on those few occasions I drag out my old micrometers, I have a Starrett but the one that I love was actually made by Zeiss

Have left and right digital verniers. Why you ask?. For easy reading of workpiece while in lathe.

Are you leaving that massive custom chainring in it’s present form? Perhaps a subtle BOOMENGINEERING cnc branding might be good for business? Did you make it because an off-the-shelf version is not available? You might find you sell a few to blokes with vast leg muscles. On the other hand, if you just like checkerplate- more power to you.

No CNC just a lot of calculations and a rotary table.

Power is Responsibility… You only hold Power for as long as you maintain Responsibility.

If your irresponsible, you wont hold Power for long.

Have a read of this. It’s the same or worse everywhere but at least it’s discussed in the media, not so in Australia

Eh FK MB. Im getting sick of this censorship BS.

Your becoming worse then modern china. Its not my fault Im smart and people are dumb.

Get out of the citys. Get a life. Learn to live.

MB is becoming the vested interest it preaches in others. A profit seeking commodity telling other profit seeking commdities not to seek profit.

MB are becoming the cowards they preech others to be. I like supporting Aussies but ” Life is about Living “, not all these systems we surround ourselves by.

I’ll fight these damn systems and I really dont care what people think.

If Systems dont make our life easier or better, then those systems need to be removed. Why do they exist in the first place?

If the system doesnt work for the people, the its time to break the system.

Systems are designed to make Peoples lives easier.

Its not the People who are made to make the Systems lives easier.

You dont blame the people… because the systems where bad to begin with.

You fix it… or you remove it entirely.

There are too many people manipulating systems for personal gain ( weaponising them ) and pretending its the systems fault.

Its not the system, its the people driving that system who are at fault.

Systems are just an excuse to the people who hide behind them.

Much like the Government systems in Australia today.

I wish I was as smart as you.

I was enjoying your censorship.

Hmm, Gunna someone how applied the shrinkage ray to my contributions…

Reusa might point out that in his experience, cold is generally responsible for shrinkage

That happened to me last time, Now only send 2 attachments at a time and all good, but in disarray, which is still OK.

Sorry about that mate, hopefully sorted

Yeah yeah but it’s upside down. Gunna!

Please check your email G. Cheers.

Beautiful photos mate… if those are your Astronomy pics.

No photos from me sadly. Im always cautious about what I put up on the internet. I dont even have a Facebook, Twitter or Instagram account. It gets used against you. We are heading into World War 3 and I guess to put it simply, I dont trust anyone.. even in Australia nowadays ;p

I wish things where different… but… way it is in big old Australia.

I don’t reckon all them servers storing all them instagram and Facebook selfies are going to survive thermo-nuclear war

Are they gonna survive increases in interest rates and energy prices? Cos crypto didn’t (OK I admit it is not actually dead yet and a resurrection story would be spectacular and significant)(my first and last crypto opinion I know nothing and understand nothing about it)(I’m just making a point about massive servers full of useless sh!t)(although it depends how you define useless cos everyone loves animal pics)(are humans the only animals that like looking at other animals?). Might have another coffee fkn.

What I’d like to know is,…With all the great advancements in the quality and quantity of pornography over the decades is server space still being used to house all that crappy 70s porn? Does anyone even look at that old low res/hairymuff stuff anymore?

Your misso reckons it was the last time men were real men.

That timber building is a work of art. Dunno if the net reduction in emissions make any difference to anybody, but it just looks so much prettier than concrete and steel. Please post a follow up if possible. I hope they leave some of it exposed as a feature.

Nice pics. The latest In Our Time is on the death of stars, you might like it.

Great shot of the Mistletoe bird.

I’m hoping to get a shot of the “OwwAhhh” bird.

So called because it lays square eggs.

No, that’s a wombat.

The only bird that poops sideways so that the mistletoe seed sticks to the branch and parasitises the new host plant. Ain’t Nature a grand scheme!

Everything above is fvcking amazing, love it.

Ermo, with that tree dropping needles all over the roof…..

If I was to see that tree with branches twisting upwards the way it is, my first thought would be that there is something serious the tree is trying to be away from. That doesnt look like a usual conifer to me.

The second thought I would have is that there must be an awful lot of stress on some of those twisted branches

It’s a tree, not a shut-in’s psyche.

Harsh Ermo. He might have been a foolish choice but at least he hung around until he fell off the perch.

(He hit the roof before falling onto the ground)
