Four people died in two separate crashes involving semitrailers on Interstate 25 in Weld County on Monday afternoon.
Just after 1:30 p.m., Colorado State Patrol responded to a crash involving at least three and possibly four vehicles on I-25 near mile marker 243 in Mead, Trooper Josh Lewis said.
Three people were confirmed dead at the scene, Lewis said. Multiple people were taken to a local hospital with varying injuries, Lewis said. He did not have further details on the victims or those injured.
Information about what led to the crash was not yet available, Lewis said, but some of the vehicles involved included a 1999 semitrailer, a 2015 Ford, a 2013 Ford sedan and, possibly, a fourth vehicle.
“We are still working on who was in what vehicle and what, precisely, occurred,” Lewis said.
As of 5:30 p.m., crews were beginning to tow the vehicles away, and the closed road in the area was expected to open shortly.
Shortly after the first crash, Colorado State Patrol responded to another fatal crash around 2:22 p.m. a bit south of the first incident on I-25, at mile marker 235 near Dacono.
That crash involved a motorcyclist and a semitrailer, Lewis said. The motorcyclist died in the crash, Lewis said.
Details about that crash were not yet known, Lewis said.
The road in that area has reopened, Lewis said.
